  1. Owning to the development of technology, ‘home’ become a new working space. In addition, with the invention of web-cam and the internet, web-meeting is also common nowadays. It means that working environment could no longer be constricted. In tradition, women are regarded as housewives and could not go out for work because they should look after the family members. Frankly, this has already provided an opportunity for them to gain extra income and additional entertainment. Actually not only women, but also men can enjoy this privilege. Somebody may be delighted that he/she could do the job they are interested, just like the woman photography. However, home-office leads to another problem of no absolute working hour. Employees may have to work anytime and anywhere once they have got a call or received an order. Then they may be more toilsome than normal workers.

  2. It can be seen that women can now work at home due to the development of internet. Their working area is no longer restricted in the office. For example, the video clip you have shown during the presentation, a woman can now have more time to do what she wants such as cleaning the home. It seems women can enjoy freedom to manage the time of working. However, at the same time, the role of women is reinforced. Since they can choose to work at home, it assumes they should have time to take care of their children and do the household work. The gender division of labour still exists that women still need to take the responsibility of being the homemaker.

  3. Work at home became a new type of work for people. Certainly, people can have flexible time to arrange their work. They may have more time to take care their family or date with friends. However, there are also some questions behind this type of work. The working time of work at home will not be fixed. In the past, people seemed office as a public sphere, while home as a private sphere. There are no more public or private sphere for them if they work at home. Moreover, it may reinforce the role of women. women can work at home may have more time to take care the family and do the housework.
For me, work at home is still benefit to me. The flexibility is larger than the bad effect of it.

  4. Because of the technological development, the Internet and real life can bind together. In Australia, the officer can work in their home in a week day. The home can be office. If the colleges need help, the phone and the internet can help you. The distance is closer and just like sitting next to you. However, it can lead some problem: the blur of private home and office. For working home, you can work in any time. Yes, you can work anytime although you are taking rest. The home is working space. By the way, for some job, the labors need to finish the job at their home also. They may okay about this, really? Yes, you can have a freelance job at home and gain more. Working occupies your time. Some may say that by the technological development, the female can have extra money and entertainment at home. They can do the job at home. They can get entertaining at home. They have a home which is very perfect to them. Who said that? If the female can an equal status, they can work outside and the housework should not limit their career. Yes, they can earn extra but still in home which physically speaking. If free the female, they can work outside, not their home. Furthermore, it is related to gender role stereotype, men can work outside but female should stay at home for taking children and do the housework? Stay home and clean? Cook the meal for their partner? It is not fair. Everyone can have choices,

  5. Working at home for women is reinforing the responsibility of housework. At this point, I have a comment that rather the advertisers were in active or passive way to present their ideas to the public. May be the seterotype of a typical women already had an effect on their common knowledge. So, do the advertisers control human thinking on women in order to increase their income? When some one state is true, you might not believe it. But when three guies around you stated that was true, you confused. When everyone state it was true, you would also follow. So, this is about the whole atmosphere of the market cognition to the idea of women.

  6. Technology in nowadays give people more flexibility to do their work in terms of time and space. Employee can choose when and where to work. However, this “flexibility is not really flexible at all. Since the improvement of internet, employee can work at home; the public area (office) and private area (home) are now hard to separate. Women can make use of these technology in order to enable themselves work at home, take care of the family and do the housework. But the concept of gender stereotype and women liberation do not reveal in the development of technology and this “flexibility”. Women still have to response to family. The only one good thing is that if a woman who need to take care of the family and really wants to go to work, the technology can actually do a little help.

  7. It is undoubtedly true that technology convenient for public, however, it also bring out and reinforces some issues. I do agree with Lottie and Valerie’s point of view about the public and private sphere are difficult to define when people can work at home. The developments of technology, for example computer, Internet and communication technologies, make the working environment change. But it is seem to be without the official working hours when employees can work on anytime and anywhere. People may need to work at their leisure time. Moreover, the video clip you have played on the tutorial, women can take care of her children, do the housework and work at the same time. It is shown that there still underlying assumption of women as the primary care-giver in family relationships which is not “free the women”. This is reinforced the gender stereotype.

  8. I think this is a great summary of the presentation. About working at home, I think the question is whether the mindset towards women will be changed, which woman should take care of the children and finish the housework. If this is not changed, women would still be both work and taking care the family, envn if they can work at home, the situation is not changed. New technology sometimes would improve our living standard, but on the other hand it could strengthen some bad traditions, we need to take care of this.
