Guiding Question:
2. ‘The machine/organism relationships are obsolete, unnecessary’ writes Haraway. In what ways have our relations to machines been theorised?

Form the editor point of view; he agreed that cyborg is including a range of aesthetic, social and cultural problem. It will lead to change our identity. Such as, how we look and how smart we are, is directly affecting our value in the society. It is well known that Cyborg is much stronger than us whatever the limitation of our psychological and biological of our bodies. A cyborg is not realistic that we can see even it can talk, smile or have their mind. In fact, the scientist has done a lot behind, for example he has given a perfect programmer and a beautiful outlook for the robot, the aim is that it is easier for the public to accept. As the outlook is similar to human and stronger than human in some situation, they can be a good helper. The editor also mentioned that there are some tools to help people to have self- modification. It is not hard to understand why human want to have a better improvement, including our bodies to mix with some technological tools. To me, cyborg will be more common in the future, human are gaining interest to have a new “nature” to changes their life and identity. Not only are the traditional natures of us accepted by the culture, but also the new one.

This reading is mainly focused on how the cyborg is presented in the society by film. One of the important points is that the line between human and cyborg is blurring. The writer said that “Cyborg has thus been “humanized””. We can chat to each other, even make friends with them. We cannot see it is a machine or human from their outlook, as it has the same skin with us and an intelligent mind. They are likely the same with us. Even they are come from the future. The other point is that there are many conflicts between human and cyborg. To take a balance between stay in peace with cyborgs or fight with them is not easy. From the film they have even discuss about the moral issues during in the society. Such as Blade Runner and Terminator can show it is challenge to our society and have their ability to destroy our world. For Terminator, the hero was destroyed. So that to have a positive mind to stay with the other is the most important that we have to do, instead of treating as a pet or toy.

From the review of Artificial Intelligence, the film reviews scientist agreed that in a rational angle to see cyborg is hard to be as same as human. For instance, they do not have the real love, they merely have the programmer. He thinks that cyborg is the same as a computer; it is just a machine that is controlled by anyone. The only difference is that they are more similar to human, so that they can be closer to people. He also talked about human have different kinds of desire and their desire is unlimited. The robot is a “new toy” that everyone may want to have it, but someday they will throw it away. This can be shown in the film and our daily life. Apart from that, the film is also mentioned that the robot can have its emotion and feelings, can it replace human in the future. If yes, is it moral or maybe the result is chosen by people. In fact, cyborg cannot replace us. The reason is that it is easy to understand that they are not credible; it is not loyal to anyone, he just loyal to someone who can fix it or control it. So, how can it be trusted.

This is the “Terminator 2” review which is written by a famous movie reviews scientist. Although he is not mainly focus on cyborg, he has discussion some point of it. The first point is “look like humans but are made of high-tech materials and have computer brains”, that’s we always talk about the definition of cyborg and It helps us to recall that cyborg is look like but they are not one of us. They are the others. We cannot deny that they can be our friend and always stay with us in the normal life. Yet, we still think that they are one of the high- tech products, just like what the writer have talked about. The next point is that there are another different plots of Terminator, it does not understand why people cry, it analysis that people is crying, but it does not know the reason of it. That’s it the difference between us and the cyborgs. It also mentioned that cyborgs are stronger and more powerful than human. They are helpful enough to solve the disaster, from the film they are always being a hero to save the world. Maybe we will need them someday.

The writer think that cyborg is a type of genre which is the supermen fighting for itself in the future. The film is mainly focus on the cyborg, not including our daily aspects. It leads me to remember that the cyborg in the film are always come from the future, maybe those kinds of film is predicting what is going to happen next. Besides, we can found out that there are some conflict between human and the machine. To me, it is no unbelievable that the robot will totally replace human to live in this world. The reason is that the feeling and emotion are not true, but they are more competitive and challenge human. That is another point that the writer has discussed, he said cyborg can solve the plague and threatening to destroy our world. It is the main problem that we are going to fright next, because the improvement of A.I. is getting faster, or even faster than we can imagine. What we have to do is how we treat to the cyborg. We can see that it is really helpful in our daily life; we cannot treat them as a toy as it has a “critical mind”.
